Nearly every week in clinic I meet a patient for the first time who has never received an Asthma Action Plan, so I am often printing them out. NEW for this spring: it's time for me to update my printout...

-Simon

Asthma Canada just released a new, simplified version of their Asthma Action Plan that turns the guesswork into a clear, visible map for our patients.

  • New Kids Version

  • New Adult Version

  • Both are now clearer & simpler

Tell your patients: "Just snap a photo of it, add it to your Favourites album, and you'll have the info you need when you have an asthma attack!"

My challenge to you:

Fill out the PDF or paper with your patient in the exam room, personalizing it to their specific triggers and medications.

Then, print and hand them a copy, and ask them to snap a photo and add it to their favourites album. This way, you provide an objective tool they can use when their cognitive load is high and their airway is tight.

Exam Tip:

When you are doing an SOO on respiratory management, remember that "patient-centred care" is a key feature on the marking sheet. If you suggest the "new 2026 version of the Asthma Action Plan," you demonstrate that you are thinking about safety and self-management... And that you are staying up to date. Just the kind of vibe that a Superior Certificant would have.
